Title: Preparation and Application of a Cationic Self-crosslinking Fluorinated Acrylate Emulsion as Oil Repellent Agent for Papers
Abstract: The cationic fluoroacrylate copolymer emulsion was prepared with Methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), butyl acrylate (BA), and 1H,1H,7H-Dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate (FM) by copolymerization in aqueous acetone. The paper sized by the fluorinated emulsion showed good oil-resistant ability when w(DMC) = 10%, n(BA)/n(FM) = 1.1, w(NMA) = 5%. The results showed that the oil-resistant time of the paper surface sizing with the diluted dispersion containing 5.0% solid content (mass fraction) and the pick up of 1.2 g/m2 was more than 62 min and the surface strength was 4.3 m/s. The copolymer was characterized by DSC and FT-IR, the size and distribution of the emulsion particles were investigated by TEM. The results showed that glass transition temperature of the copolymer is 50℃ and the emulsion particles size is 96~102 nm.The cationic self-crosslinking fluorinated acrylate emulsion can increase the oil repellent and surface strength of the paper obviously.
