Title: Expression of survivin in Cervical Carcinomas and Its Clinical Significance
Abstract: Objective To study the expression of a inhibitor gene of apoptosis, survivin,in cervical carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods Using immunohistochemical method,we examined the expression of survivin and cyclinB1 in 18 normal cervical tissues and 56 cervical carcinomas and analyzed the relationship of the results. Results Expression of survivin gene was detected in a significantly greater proportion of cervical carcinoma( 69.6%,39/56) than adjacent normal cervical tissues( 16.7%,3/18) (P 0.01). There is no relationship between survivin gene expression and histological subtype or the tumor grade, but there is relationship between survivin gene expression and age, clinical stage, lymph node metastases. The expression of survivin gene correlated with cyclinB1 expression. Conclusion The up-regulation expression of survivin and cyclinB1 might play synergetic in the process of carcinogenisis of cervical carcinoma. Survivin and cyclinB1 might be the promotion of the transition of G_2/M in the aggressive forms of cervical carcinoma. Survivin may be identified as a potential therapeutic target in cervical carcinoma.
