Title: SHORT-TERM STREPTOMYCIN-CONTAINING REGIMEN GREATLY REDUCES THE TIME NEEDED TO ERADICATE MYCOBACTEIUM TUBERCULOSIS FROM THE LUNGS OF INFECTED HUMAN
Abstract: Objective To compare tow different short-term regimen's efficacies in anti-tuberculosis.Method One hundred patients who accompanied by bacillary pulmonary tuberculosis and treated firstly were included in the study and randomized into two groups:Streptomycin-containing group(group SM,2HRZS/7HR) or EMB-containing group(EMB group,2HRZE/7HR),respectively,with fifty patients in each group.Check-up of the mycobacterium tuberculosis were made monthly i.e.sputum smearing three times, sputum culture one time, thereafter, follow up for 2 years after withdraw of the treatment.Result Culture conversions within 2 months after initiation of treatment were 29 cases(63%)in SM group,18 cases(38%)in EMB group,respectively(p0.05).Need long-drawn time of treatment used four drugs was 16 cases(35%) in SM group, and 26 cases(55%) in EMB group,respectively(p0.05).Relapses were occurred in 2 cases(4%) in SM group, and in 3cases(6%) in EMB group(p0.05).Conclusion Streptomycin-containing regimen has the potential to substantially shorten the duration of therapy need to cure human tuberculosis.
