Title: Efficacy of Ornidazole and Tinidazole Against Periodontitis and Pericoronitis: A Clinical and Experimental Study
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To find out the bacteria distributing in periodontitis and pericoronitis and the efficacy of ornidazole against them. METHODS In this random double-blind trial, 30 periodontitis and pericoronitis patients were treated by ornidazole, and 30 patients treated by tinidazole served as a control group. The clinical efficacy and the rate of killing anaerobic bacteria were observed. RESULTS The effective rate was 83.3% in test group and 73.3% in control group respectively and the rate of killing anaerobic bacteria was 91.7% and 88.4%, respectively. There were no significant differences between two groups (P0.05). CONCLUSIONS Ornidazole shows obvious therapeutic effects on infection with anaerobic bacteria and the sample collecting should be normative in culturing anaerobic bacteria.
