Title: Synthesis of methyl (methylthio) acetate by phase transfer catalysis
Abstract: Methyl(methylthio) acetate was prepared by the reaction of methyl chloroacetate with sodium methanethiolate in the presence of phase tranfer catalyst of tetramethyl ammonium bromide. The molar ratio of sodium methanethiolate and methyl chloroacetate was 1.2 to 1, and the reaction last 40min at 45~50℃. The yield of methyl (methylthio) acetate was 78.5%. Finally the structure of the product was confirmed by IR and GC-MS.The route adopted in the paper was simple, and the employed materials could be obtained easily.
