Title: Influence of hyerbaric oxygen on NOS positive neurons after acute focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen(HBO) on NOS positive neurons after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion(IR) injury in rats.Methods Rat model of focal cerebral ischemia induced by intraluminal filament occlusion of middle cerebral artery(MCA) was used.The NOS positive neurons in rat brain were examined after 1h of ischemia with 4,11,23 and 71 h of reperfusion(removed of MCA occlusion) respectively using the NADPH-d histochemistry method.During the reperfusion period,0.25 MPa(ATA)HBO treatment for 1 h each time was applied at 2,9,21,45 and 69 h after the beginning of ischemia.Results The numbers of degeneration NOS positive neurons were increased gradually after MCA occlusion in brain area.After HBO therapy,the numbers of degeneration NOS positive neurons were obviously decreased in cortex,preoptic area and medial striatum (P0 05),but no obviously descrepancy in the lateral striatum(P0 05).Conclusion HBO could obviously inhibit the degeneration of NOS positive neurons after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats.
