Title: Expression and Clinical Significance of p21 and Survivin in Gastric Carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of p21 and Survivin in the occurrence、development of gastric cancer and its correlations. Methods Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the p21 and Survivin expression in 50 specimens of gastric carcinoma, and 40 specimens of normal mucosa adjacent to carcinoma. Results The positive rates of p21 in gastric carcinoma and normal mucosa were 46.0% and 82.5%,respectively.Meanwhile,the positive rates of Survivin in gastric carcinoma and normal mucosa were 56% and 0%,respectively.There was significant difference(P 0.05).In gastric carcinoma, the p21 expression significantly decreased in stage Ⅲ or Ⅳ tumors, positive lymph-node metastasis, and poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma(P 0.05).The expression of Survivin significantly increased in positive lymph-node metastasis, and poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma(P 0.05).There was negative correlation between the p21 and Survivin expression in gastric carcinoma(γ =-0.475;P 0.05).Conclusion The abnormal expression of p21 and Survivin may be related to the occurrence, development and metastasis of gastric cancer.p21 and Survivin may be used as diagnostic and prognostic markers of gastric cancer.
