Title: Synthesis and Characterization of 2-[2-Hydroxy-4-( 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxy) propylphenyl]-( 5-chloro-) 2H-benzotriazole UV Absorbers
Abstract: Three( 2-hydroxy-3-chloro) propylalkoxy ether compounds were prepared by the reactions of epichlorohydrin with n-butanol,iso-octanol,and n-dodecanol respectively,with borontrifluorideether complex as catalyst. Then the three prepared compounds were respectively subjected to reactions with 2-( 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2H-benzotriazole or 2-( 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-5-chloro-2H-benzotriazole to get six 2-[2-hydroxy-4-( 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxy) propylphenyl]-( 5-chloro-) 2H-benzotriazole compounds( Ⅱa,Ⅱ b,Ⅱ c,Ⅲ a,Ⅲ b,Ⅲ c) as resorcinol derivatives,and the yields were 83%,79%,78%,85%, 74% and 77% respectively. The target products were characterized by means of IR and MS,and tested by ultraviolet absorption spectrum. All the six compounds have relatively strong absorption peak in 250 ~ 400 nm wavelength range. The maximum molar extinction coefficient( emax) of compounds Ⅱ a,Ⅱ b, Ⅱc,Ⅲa,Ⅲb and Ⅲc was respectively 23 190. 1 L /( mol·cm)( λmax = 338. 5 nm),22 018. 4 L /( mol ·cm)( λmax = 341. 5 nm),23 895. 1 L /( mol·cm)( λmax = 339 nm),24 368. 0 L /( mol·cm)( λmax = 346. 5 nm),22 522. 6 L /( mol·cm)( λ max = 346. 5 nm) and 25 104. 5 L /( mol·cm)( λ max = 347 nm). They were a kind of more efficient UV absorbers compared with the traditional UV absorber UVP〔emax = 16 177. 7 L /( mol·cm),λmax = 338. 5 nm〕.
