Abstract: Objective To investigate the efficacy of combined treatment of stroke hemiplegia with scalp electroacupuncture and stroke unit. Method One hundred patients meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 50 cases each. Both groups received a combined treatment with traditional Chinese and Western medicine and stroke unit. The treatment group received scalp electroacupuncture additionally. The therapeutic effects were evaluated after 4 courses of treatment. Results BI and NIHSS scores significantly increased in both group of patients after treatment (P0.05). They increased significantly more in treatment group than in the control group (P0.01). The total efficacy rate was 94% in the treatment group and 86% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference in therapeutic effect between the two groups (P0.05). Conclusion A combined treatment with traditional Chinese and Western medicine and stroke unit has a marked effect on stroke hemiplegia. Additional use of scalp electroacupuncture can further improve the therapeutic effect.
