Title: Therapeutic Observation on Scalp Acupuncture plus Rehabilitation Training in Treating Ischemic Stroke in the Elderly
Abstract: Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture mostly with scalp acupoints plus rehabilitation training in treating ischemic stroke in the elderly and the effect on the reconstruction of neural function.Method Eighty-four old patients with ischemic stroke were randomized into a treatment group and a control group,42 in each group. Both groups received conventional medicines and nursing care for cerebral stroke.Based on the conventional treatment, the treatment group also received cluster needling with scalp acupoints and rehabilitation training, and the control group received rehabilitation training.Modified Edinburgh-Scandinavia Stroke Scale(MESSS),Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA),and Barthel Index were adopted for evaluation before and after treatment.Result The total effective rate was 92.9%in the treatment group versus 76.2%in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).After treatment, the two groups both had marked changes in MESSS,FMA and Barthel Index scores(P0.01).The differences between the treatment group and the control group in MESSS,FMA and Barthel Index scores were statistically significant(P0.05,P0.01).Conclusion Integrated use of cluster needling with scalp acupoints and rehabilitation training is an effective method in treating ischemic stroke in the elderly.
