Title: Numerical Simulation Analysis of Stress-Absorbing Layer to Relieve Stress Concentration in Asphalt Concrete Overlay
Abstract: Stress concentration at joints of old cement concrete pavement induces too large stress to cause reflective cracking in asphalt concrete overlay.The finite element methods are used to carry out comparative analysis for overlay structures with or without stress-absorbing layer,load stress,thermal stress and stress intensity factors drop by big percentages while stress-absorbing layer is installed between old cement concrete pavement and asphalt concrete overlay,and the effect is more obvious with the lower module of stress-absorbing layer.Theoretical analysis results show that stress-absorbing layer can relieve stress concentration at joints of asphalt concrete overlay and delay the speed of production and propagation of reflective cracking.
