Title: Mechanics Analysis of Asphalt Concrete Overlay on the Existing Cement Concrete Pavement
Abstract: Reflection cracking resulted from shearing stress induced by vehicle loads is one of the conventional damage in asphalt concrete (AC) overlay on the existing cement concrete pavement. The finite element method is utilized to analyze the mechanics states of the AC overlay on the concrete pavement, which is emphasized on the shearing stress and the deflection difference at the joints between two slab edges induced by vehicle loads. On the base of great deal computation, the critical loading position is presented and the variation tendency influenced by some parameters on AC stresses is analyzed. The theoretical value is also provided for application of the design method of AC overlay on the existing cement concrete pavement.
