Title: Synthesis of benzyl cinnamate by phase transfer catalysis method
Abstract: Benzyl cinnamate has been synthesized with hexadecy trimethylammonium bromide as the catalyst. The factors influencing on the yield of the reaction, such as the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature, reaction time and molar ratio of sodium cinnamate to benzyl chloride, are investigated. The result shows that hexadecy trimethylammonium bromide is an effective catalyst and the optimum conditions of preparation are determined with yield of benzyl cinnamate 96.3%.The conditions are as follows:molar ratio of sodium cinnamate to benzyl chloride is 1∶1.3,amount of the catalyst is 0.6 grams, reaction temperature is 95℃ and reaction time is 3.0 hours. The structure is characterized by IR,~1H NMR and MS.
