Title: Synthesis of n-Butyl Cinnamate by Solid Acids
Abstract: The process for synthesis of n-butyl cinnamate (n-BC) using solid acid catalysts is studied, and the order of catalytic activities for catalysts in the reaction of cinnamic acid with n-butanol is shown as follows: HPW( tungstophosphoric acid)SnCl_4·5H_2 ONH_4 Fe (SO_4)2·12H_2OSO_4~(2-)/ZrO_2. In the presence of HPW, the proper technology parameters for the process are achieved: the molar ratio of n-butanol to cinnamic acid is 5∶1, the amount of HPW is about 3% upon the mass of n-butanol charged in the reaction, the temperature is controlled between 120~130℃ and the reaction time is about 4 h, then the conversion of n-butyl cinnamate is above 98.5%, the yield is 85%~87%, and the purity of resulting product is over 99.0%.
