Title: Clinical application of transcatheter arterial infusion chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma before radiotherapy
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the value of transcatheter arterial infusionTAI chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinomaNPC before radiotherapy. Methods NPC was treated by maxillary arterial and ascending pharyngeal arterial infusiontrans-femoral of cisplatin 5-fluorouracil and pingyangmycin. Radiotherapy started one week after interventional chemotherapy. Sixty five patients with advanced NPC treated in the same period of time with radiotherapy alone served as control. Results At four weeks following completion of radiotherapy complete response rate in the two groups of patients the group of chemotherapy before radiotherapy and radiotherapy alone was 74.41% and 60% respectively. The radiation dose required to achieve complete response of the primary and metastatic lesions was significantly less as compared to that of patients receiving radiotherapy alone. Conclusion TAI chemotherapy is effective and safe in NPC before radiotherapy.
