Title: Radiotherapy plus chemotherapy for esophageal carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To study the therapeutic effect of radiotherapy with chemotherapy for esophageal carcinoma.Methods A prospective study was carried out in 120 patients,of whom 40 paitents were randomized into chemotherapy group,given 5-Fu DDP HCPT; 40 patients were randomized into radiotherapy group given 8MV-x ray using 3 fields to D T60Gy,40 patients were randomized into radiotherapy plus chemotherapy group given radiotherapy with chemotherapy.Three groups were followed for 3 years.Results The one,two and three-year survival rates were 52.5%,32.5%,15% in chemotherapy group,57.5%,42.5%,20% in radiotherapy group and 75%,65%,42.5% in chemo-radiotherapy group,respectively.The two and three-year survival rates in chemo-radiotherapy were much better than those in chemotherapy and radiotherapy (P0.05).No severe side-effect was seen.Conclusions Chemoradiotherapy for esophageal carcinoma is effective and worth further studying in clinic.
