Title: EFFECTS OF CATECHIN ON BLOOD FAT LEVEL IN EXPERIMENTAL ATHEROSCLEROSIS MODEL
Abstract: Objective To study the effects of catechin on hyperlipidemia of experimental atherosclerosis model. MethodsThis study consisted of 120 male quails, which were randomized to control group, model group,lovastatin(79.5 mg/kg) group,as well as low-dose 20 mg/kg),medium-dose(40 mg/kg) and high-dose(80 mg/kg) catechin groups. All the quails, except those in the control group, were fed on fat-rich forage. In the end of the sixth week of medication, lipid levels in serum, aorta and cardiac muscle in quails were detected, and the livers were investigated macroscopically and histologically. ResultsCompared with the model group, the levels of serum triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low density lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein B in each catechin group decreased(F=5.45-46.86,q=2.00-8.94,P0.05),and apolipoproteinA increased(q=3.25-4.15,P0.05);the serum high density lipoprotein cholesterol increased in medium-dose catechin group(q=2.38-5.10,P0.05),and,meanwhile,TC and TG in cardiac muscle and TG in aorta markedly decreased(F=6.60-12.81,q=2.47-7.78,P0.05),Grading standard of fatty degeneration in each catechin group was lower than that of the model group(H=42.98,q=6.90-10.95,P0.05),so did for the liver coefficient(F=17.15,q=3.00-4.92,P0.05). ConclusionCatechin shows an effect on regulation of blood fat and prevention of atherosclerosis.
