Title: Plasma neuropeptide Y concentration changes in rats with acute renal ischemia-reperfusion injury
Abstract: Objective To explore the plasma neuropeptide Y (NPY) concentration changes in rats with acute renal ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into a control group and an ischemia-reperfusion group with 16 rats in each group. We established the acute renal ischemia-reperfusion injury model in rats. NPY concentration, blood urea nitrogen (BUN),creatinine (Cr),serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were assessed after 3 hours of renal ischemia-reperfusion. Aditionally we observed the pathological changes of kidney tissue. Results Compared with control group, plasma NPY,BUN,Cr and MDA levels in ischemia-reperfusion group were significantly higher (P0.05),SOD was significantly lower (P0.05). Compared with the control group,ischemia-reperfusion renal histopathological injury significantly increased. Conclusion Plasma NPY concentration in rats with acute renal ischemia-reperfusion injury and extent of kidney damage is positively correlated. NPY can be used as one of the indicators in rats with acute renal ischemia-reperfusion injury to estimate the degree of kidney damage.
