Title: Reversal of left ventricular hypertrophy by valsartan combined with benazepril in elderly hypertensive patients4
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of valsartan combined with benazepril on blood pressure and left ventrieular hypertrophy in patients with gerontic hypertension. Methods Left ventricular hypertrophy was diagnosed by color Doppler echcoardiography in 58 patients (ages≥60) with essential hypertensive. All patients were treated with valsartan+benazepril for 6 months. After treatment, patients' blood pressure were checked, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVDd),interventricular septum thickness(IVSd),posterior wall thickness(LVPWd),left ventricular weight index (LVWI) were reexamined by echocardiography and the results were assessed. Results As compared with pre-treatment,patients' systolic pressure and diastolic pressure decreased significantly,IVSd,LVPWd and LVMI improved obviously (P0.05). Conclution Valsartan combined with benazepril was effective on hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.
