Title: Experimental study on hemodynamic changes in liver before and after rabbit VX2 liver tumor inoculation by perfusion CT
Abstract: Objective To study the rules of hemodynamic changes in liver caused by rabbit VX2 liver tumor with perfusion imaging of multi slice helical CT (MSCT). Methods Perfusion imaging of MSCT scans were conducted in 10 New Zealand white rabbits with VX2 tumor before and after VX2 liver tumor inoculation, the differences of perfusion parameters such as hepatic blood flow (HBF), hepatic blood volume (HBV), mean transit time (MTT), permeability of capillary vessel surface (PS) and hepatic arterial index (HAI) were compared to evaluate the liver hemodynamic changes. Results For tumorous regions in livers, only MTT decreased significantly ( P 0.01),the other values such as HBF, HBV, HAI, PS increased significantly ( P 0.01), when compared with the non tumorous regions in liver. All these changes occurred at days 5-9 after tumor inoculation. Statistically significant changes in these values were detected with tumor growth ( P 0.05). Conclusion The hemodynamic changes in liver caused by rabbit VX2 liver tumor can be detected before and after tumor inoculation. Perfusion imaging of MSCT can evaluate the physiological characters of tumor angiogenesis.
