Methods Data of emergent public ...Objective To study characteristics of emergent public health events at school in Yunnan from 2005 to 2008,in order to guide decision making for prevention and control. Methods Data of emergent public health events at school in Yunnan from 2005 to 2008 were collected from the Web-based Reporting System of emergent public health events,and a descriptive study was conducted. Results There were 576 emergent public health events reported at schools in Yunnan from 2005 to 2008,with 42 127 cases and 8 deaths. The events reported at schools accounted for 57.72% of all events reported in Yunnan,with 74.82% and 1.88% of overall cases and deaths respectively. Infectious disease outbreaks were the major type of the school emergent events,which accounted for 87.50%. The most often identified infectious diseases causing outbreaks were chickenpox,influenza,mumps and rubella. Most events occurred from March to May in elementary schools(accounted for 71.70%). Each event involved 1.13 schools on average. Conclusion The emergent public health event,especially infectious disease outbreaks,occurred at the school and kindergarten frequently. Health department should corporate with education department and efforts should be given to strengthen the prevention and control measures.Read More
