Title: Studies of the effects of complex Shouwu jiangzhitongmai granule on experimental hyperlipidemia and fatty liver in rats
Abstract: Objective To investigate the antihyperlipidemia and antifatty liver of complex Shouwu jiangzhitongmai granule(CSJG) in rats. Methods Male SD rats were fed with high-fat diet for 6 weeks after being treated with low dose of carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) to induce the fatty liver model. The different dosages of the drug were then orally given to the rats.Serum contents of total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),high-density lipoprotein(HDL),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),alanine transaminase(ALT),aspartate transaminase(AST),malonyldialdehyde(MDA),and superoxide dismutase(SOD) were measured as indexes to evaluate the drug effects. Results The serum levels of TC,TG,LDL,MDA,ALT,and AST were significantly decreased and the activity of SOD was markedly increased by the CSJG.The substantial improvement of liver histology and the pathological morphology were also observed in treated rats. Conclusion CSJG can significantly reduce the levels of serum lipids as well as alleviate the degree of fatty liver formation, indicating that it has great effects on the experimental fatty liver induced by administration of the combination of a low dose CCl4 and high-fat diet.
