Title: The clinical application of sentinel lymph node mapping during operation for analyzing the lymph node metastasis of colon cancer
Abstract: Objective To study the feasibility of the sentinel lymph node(SLN) mapping during operation and clinical value in analyzing lymph node metastasis of colon cancer. Methods SLN was mapped during operation by staining method with isosulfan in 86 cases with colon cancer. All lymph nodes were checked by routine pathological technique, while SLNs were checked by serial sectioning pathologic technique and immunohistochemistry. Results Of 86 cases,82(95.3%) cases were diagnosed displaying SLN.Thirty-nine cases were found to have metastatic SLNs by serial sectioning pathologic technique or immunohistochemistry, while only 26 cases had metastatic lymph node by routine pathologic technique. A total of 182 SLNs among 1107 regional lymph nodes was positively inspected in the 82 cases. The metastatic rate of SLNs was higher than that of regional lymph nodes (P0.01). Conclusion The SLN mapping during operation is feasible and helpful to improve the positive finding rate of the metastatic lymph node of colon cancer.
