Title: Building Community Through Staff Development Initiatives
Abstract: Abstract Coordinated personal and skills training programs for library staff can build a sense that everyone contributes something to effective and efficient library operations. At Penrose Library, University of Denver, staff development issues were identified during strategic planning. Because employees become more valuable by improving their technological abilities and their communication, supervision, and team-building skills, the library has actively tried to help staff grow personally and professionally. Penrose's Staff Development and Training Program includes a wide variety of activities. Ongoing employee training is particularly important in an environment where the combination of finite resources, technological changes, and rising expectations provides constant challenges.
