Title: Globalising the women's movement agenda in South Africa
Abstract: abstract Analyses of the discourses and dynamics of contemporary women's movements illustrate how new social movements respond to political opportunities and threats, mobilise their structures, and claim and re-claim their agendas. In South Africa, social and political changes arguably played a watershed role in the structures and strategies of the women's movement over several decades. Given the socio-political and historical context of trends in the women's movements globally and locally, this article investigates changing discourses and current initiatives to re-invigorate, re-direct and sustain women's agendas in South Africa. Social movement theory underlies the discussion.
