Title: From Grassroots to Institutions: Women's Movements Studies in Europe
Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of the major trends of European scholarship on women’s movements over the last three decades. It shows that after a series of founding comparative studies on grassroots feminist protest, women’s movements have been increasingly addressed in their relationship to political institutions (bureaucracies, parliaments, parties…). While this shift reflects the transformations of the women’s movements themselves, it also embodies the growing influence of political science perspectives in the study of women’s movements and gender in European countries.
