Title: Placing Stakeholders and the Community at the Center of Lasting Transportation Improvements: Lessons Learned in New Jersey, USA
Abstract: Municipalities, communities, and neighborhoods face a variety of transportation issues, ranging from congestion management and safety to complete streets. However, they often lack the resources to address these issues in a comprehensive and inclusive manner. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recognizes the importance of addressing community transportation issues because they are often critical to mobility within the community itself, as well as within the transportation system as a whole. NJDOT’s Community Transportation Planning Assistance (CTPA) program, formerly known as the Local Transportation Planning Assistance (LTPA) program, was established to assist communities with these very challenges by providing quality planning expertise for a range of local transportation problems and issues.
