Title: EPRI's research on AFBC by-product management
Abstract: The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is involved in the development and commercialization of fluidized combustion technology for the electric utility industry. As part of this effort, EPRI developed a plan to characterize solid by-products from FBC plants. Characterization is necessary for site permitting, designing by-produce handling equipment, and evaluating utilization applications. This paper presents test data on by-products from the 1' x 1' and 6' x 6' AFBC test facilities at Alliance, Ohio and the 20-MWe pilot plant at Paducah, Kentucky, and it describes plans for further characterization at the three AFBC demonstration sites. It also describes plans for performing by-product disposal experiments, designing by-product handling equipment, and evaluating utilization options.
