Title: A probabilistic aggregate travel demand model
Abstract: The model discussed in this paper is a non linear extension of a work travel demand model presented in a previous paper. The earlier model is given a probabilistic interpretation. The data used are from the Perth regional transportation study (1970) and elasticities and cross elasticities of the demand for central business district work travel with respect to various transport system characteristics are calculated. The paper analyses the effect on private and public transport use of a range of policies such as changes in transport service (eg, reduced travel times), in out of pocket expenses (eg, higher public transport fares or car parking costs) or in indirect expenses (eg, increased petrol tax).
