Title: Salpingocatheterism by endoscopy in treatment of secretory otitis media following radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Abstract: Objective To estimate the curative effects of salpingocatheterism by endoscopy for secretory otitis media(SOM) following radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods 45 SOM patients(58 ears) with NPC after radiotherapy were treated by salpingocatheterism under nasal endoscopy and intratympanic application of medicine through the eustachian tubes. Results In the 45 SOM patients(58 ears),complete response was found in 42 ears(72.42%),partial response in 13(22.41%),and no response in 3(5.17%).The total efficient rate was 94.83%.Conclusion Salpingocatheterism is effective and practicable for SOM in patients with NPC after radiotherapy by supporting and enlarging the eustachian tube.
