Title: SYSTEM SAFETY PROGRAMS AND ACCIDENT TRACKING
Abstract: Under contract with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) was tasked with developing a process to help the fixed-route Florida transit agencies track and analyze bus accidents. Such an analysis will help determine common causal factors contributing to accidents, in addition to potential hazards. In developing system safety guidelines and accident tracking procedures, it is important to gain insight into other experiences throughout the transit industry. To this end, a survey of 18 Florida fixed-route public transit agencies, as well as 13 large systems across the U.S. and Canada was conducted. This paper presents selected results of the survey, specifically those dealing with the non-Florida system survey responses.
