Abstract: THIS REVIEW OF LITERATURE GIVES A SUMMARY OF NON-CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUES FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT ON LAND. IT APPEARS THAT MANY TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED, BUT THAT ONLY A FEW ARE OPERATIONAL. ADVANTAGES, AS YET, DO NOT COMPENSATE DISADVANTAGES; PROBLEMS OF NETWORK BUILDING AND INTEGRATION INTO EXISTING SYSTEMS ARE THE MAIN DRAWBACKS. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE FACT THAT CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUES CAN BE IMPROVED CONSIDERABLY. AT THE PRESENT STAGE, APPLICATION OF NEW TECHNIQUES CANNOT IMPROVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT SUFFICIENTLY TO BE OF CONSIDERABLE INFLUENCE ON PRIVATE TRANSPORT.
