Title: ENGINEERING SAVINGS THROUGH ENERGY MANAGEMENT. DEMONSTRATION AND MONITORING OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ENERGY POLICIES - NATIONAL ENERGY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM; END OF GRANT REPORT
Abstract: The responsibility to efficiently use existing energy resources and to look ahead by adopting community energy policies is being recognised by many Australian local authorities. For their efforts, energy costs are being reduced and a fine example is being set to the general community. Energy is one of the few areas where savings can be made without affecting the quality of services provided by local authorities. Most of the high energy users - buildings, vehicles, machinery, pumps and lighting - rest within the supervision of the city engineer. The following article identifies some of the energy saving opportunities open to city engineers so that a plan of action appropriate to each council can be formulated (A). This paper was presented to the 4th National Local Government Engineering Conference, 1987, Perth, Australia.
