Title: CANADIAN EXPERIENCE WITH HDM3 IN ROAD TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT
Abstract: Three Canadian cases of HDM3 model applications are used to generalize on the adaptations and calibrations required of the model to suit North American needs and conditions related to road user costs, pavement deterioration and highway investment analysis. The World Bank's Highway Design and Maintenance Standards Model (Watanatada et al. 1987) can make life-cycle cost evaluations of road construction and maintenance alternatives. It has been developed from a largest ever database collected in Brazil and contains generic relationships which can be calibrated to local conditions. The present version of the model is HDM3, which is also available for a microcomputer.
