Title: PUBLIC TRANSPORT TARIFFS AND TARIFF POLICIES
Abstract: This article briefly reviews public transport tariff policies in various large urban areas in Europe and the USA, and supports the criterion that a journey in any direction by any mode or combination thereof should be made on a single ticket or payment, and that public transport tariffs should be calculated on this basis. The author does not support the view that tariff policies will succeed in transferring traffic from private to public transport. It is argued that the price of the journey is not the most important factor affecting transport demand; more important is the quality of service which public transport offers. (TRRL) discussed with the aid of thin section photomicrographs of the rock targets after testing.(a)
