Title: ALL CHANGE AS RAIL ENGINEERS FACE TOUGH CHALLENGES
Abstract: This article describes the changes taking place in the railroad industry throughout Europe, with an emphasis on Britain. Interfleet Technology, in Britain, was created from the former InterCity Fleet Engineering Group which was responsible for the specification, procurement and maintenance of such trains such as the 140 mph (225 km/h) InterCity 225 (IC225) for the London-Edinburgh East Coast main line, which have led the world in high-speed trains running on existing tracks. In the long-term, the survival of the railroad business will depend on strategic decisions in an industry where technical advance has never been more rapid.
