Title: COLORADO TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM : THE NEW MILLENNIUM'S MOTION
Abstract: This paper was presented at the 'Strategic RD created to enhance Colorado surface transportation through the integration of existing and planned systems. These systems include management, information, communications and control systems; incorporating advanced traffic management systems (ATMS), advanced traveler information systems (ATIS), advanced public transportation systems (APTS), commercial vehicle operations (CVO), and other local, regional, and statewide initiatives. The CTMS will be in compliance with the National ITS Architecture as well as the Colorado architecture developed for the currently operating system. The CTMS will be an open system and will be completely modular to accommodate distributed transportation management functions as well as the future plug-in of currently planned or unforeseen functions. The vision of this program is to develop a system that will allow more efficient use of existing freeway and arterial capacity; improve driver information and safety; reduce delays, fuel consumption and air pollution, and make efficient use of personnel resources.
