Title: ULTIMATE LOAD BEHAVIOUR OF LONGITUDINALLY REINFORCED WEB PLATES SUBJECTED TO PURE BENDING
Abstract: THIS PAPER EXAMINES THE REFERENCE OF THE FLEXURAL RIGIDITY OF LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS ON THE POST BUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF DEEP PLATE GIRDERS. TESTS ON 10 GIRDERS HAVING A WEB DEPTH OF 50 INS (1.27 METERS) AND REINFORCED BY EITHER A SINGLE OR TWO LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS HAVE SHOWN THAT THE ULTIMATE LOAD CAN BE SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED IF THE LONGITUDINAL STIFFNESS HAS INSUFFICIENT RIGIDITY. THESE TESTS HAVE SIMPLE LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS. IF LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS ARE DESIGNED ACCORDING TO THE ABOVE RELATIONS, GIRDERS SHOULD DEVELOP FULL PLASTICITY BEFORE FAILURE. /TRRL/
