Title: STATE OF THE ART PASSENGER INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Abstract: Passengers using public transit vehicles must be provided with accurate and easily understood audio and visual information. At a minimum, they need information regarding the route and destination of the vehicle they are traveling on. Due to the latest requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), they also must receive information regarding stops and transfer points. All of this information must meet very demanding audiovisual quality standards. It has been demonstrated that the installation of a high quality, state of the art passenger information system in an authority's fleet benefits both the agency and its riders. Satisfied customers can be equaled to increased ridership. This paper describes some of the most advanced systems available in this very specialized market.
