Title: UNSIGNALIZED INTERSECTION SIMULATION MODEL INTERSIM
Abstract: Unsignalized intersections are characterized by a large number of vehicle interactions. These vehicle interactions change with the wide variety of possible intersection layouts. So far, research studies have dealt mostly with TWSC intersections and with a procedure to analyze them. However, such a procedure cannot account for all possible intersection configurations. This paper presents a new unsignalized intersection model designed to analyze AWSC intersections and TWSC intersections as well as other special configurations. The simulation is capable of computing average vehicle delay, LOS, queue length in feet, and number of vehicles, as well as indicating overflowed or blocked turning bays. The paper is intended to explain the basics of the simulation: vehicle creation process, queueing process, logic for determining which vehicle will move next, and the actual process of moving vehicles through the intersection.
