Abstract: Trends in traffic accidents are reviewed in this article, which also presents relevant tabulated statistics. Motor vehicle deaths increased 1 percent in 1987 over 1986. Statistics in travel, vehicles, drivers, death rates and injuries are noted. Factors affecting motor-vehicle deaths are also noted. Regional changes in death rates are noted and comments are made on urban-rural fatality experience, and deaths by type of accident. Deaths as related to age of victim is discussed. Individual state experience in death rates are also noted.
