Title: Private Sector Opportunities In Rural ITS Project Planning and Deployment: Example of an Integrated Corridor Management System
Abstract: In rural Northern California, Northwestern Nevada and Southern Oregon increasing traffic demand, adverse natural environment, and traffic safety are major concerns. Private sector involvement in ITS system integration can play a vital role in addressing transportation challenges in rural areas. There is limited discussion on the subject of private sector involvement in ITS projects and related ITS infrastructure. This paper addresses and evaluates the potential for private sector involvement in planning and deployment of rural ITS system integration. It also identifies potential challenges and opportunities, provides guiding principles for partnerships and alliances, identifies lessons learned and a roadmap for the private sector’s role and opportunities in interregional ITS corridor management projects.
