In a first step it is established that similar linear equations must be permissible for transient longitudinal and lateral forces. Using various test rigs, wheel and drum velocity and longitudinal force were measured as time functions and processed by spectral analysis methods. The results describe the frequency response between wheel velocity and longitudinal force, differential velocity in the tyre contact surface and longitudinal force, slip and longitudinal force and between resultant slippage and resulting tangential tyre force. From these findings it can be assumed that there is a general law for building up tyre controlling forces. (Author/TRRL)Read More
