Abstract: This article describes the implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies for paratransit service in the jurisdiction of the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) and jointly with the Polk County Transit Service (PCTS) and as funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The logistical system used by the paratransit providers consists of a fixed-mount mobile computer that can receive electronic passenger manifests and collect real-time status updates. The ITS array was installed in twenty vehicles- ten in each of the systems fleet. The system will have two main benefits according to officials; the first benefit is that of improved service efficiency and reliability, and the second being a better total knowledge of which customers are being served best and where the system could improve on service.
