This study depicts the the dynamics of land use patterns, integrating Chenery's regional economic development processes into an activity location model. Structural transformations are revealed by non-proportional growth across sectors. Economic development produces changes in input-output relationships that are translated into updated transhipments between activities. A model is described which accounts for interactions between a) a priori profitabilities, b) transport costs defined by a congestive transport network, c) externalities, d) relocation costs and e) technological change.
