Title: Pavement management in Victoria: implementation of a system to assist the Road Construction Authority
Abstract: The Pavement Management System (PMS) which has been implemented for use in the Road Construction Authority (RCA) will contribute to the goals of the RCA in providing optimum value to the community for preservation of the pavements on the highways and freeways of Victoria. Use of PMS will require more emphasis being given to ascertaining appropriate standards for asset preservation and monitoring of the effects of asset preservation works. The ability of the system to predict pavement performance at present is largely due to the work done over the past ten years by those in the CRB and the RCA who saw the need to collect data to assist in the monitoring of the road network. Although the lack of similar data for the principal roads which are managed by municipalities presents some limitations it will be possible to extend PMS to those roads in the near future.
