Title: NEW TRANSPORTATION POLICY LIKELY TO SPELL FEDERAL HIGHWAY ROLE
Abstract: TRANSPORT MINISTER PICKERSGILL INDICATED PLANS TO SET UP AN AGENCY TO COORDINATE ALL ASPECTS OF TRANSPORTATION IN THE COUNTRY. THE NEW TRANSPORTATION POLICY WILL BE A FACET OF COOPERATION BETWEEN GOVERNMENTS IN COORDINATING HIGHWAY PROGRAMS. THE PROPOSED AGENCY WOULD ADVISE OTTAWA AS A LIAISON BETWEEN OTTAWA AND THE PROVINCES ON ISSUES SUCH AS A SECOND TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY AND A NATIONAL HIGHWAYS POLICY .
