Title: THE CONTRIBUTION OF WORK, LEISURE AND TRAVEL TO THE SUBJECTIVE VALUE OF TRAVEL TIME SAVINGS
Abstract: Although very many travel choice models have been estimated and reported in the literature, no attempt has been made to link the obtained subjective values of travel time with the money values of work, leisure or travel (dis)satisfaction. In this article the authors develop a microeconomic model of activities whose results can be linked with a mode choice model in such a way that all these values can be obtatined distinctly. The framework is experimentally applied using information on travel choices and home-work activities for two income groups collected in Santiago, Chile. Results show that all individuals dislike both work and travel, and that the resource value (leisure) contributes from 10% to 20% to the subjective value of travel time savings.
