Title: Successful railway bridge design and construction during limited track possession periods: the RailCorp experience
Abstract: RailCorp (Rail Corporation of New South Wales) owns and maintains the rail infrastructure in the greater metropolitan Sydney region and is responsible for the asset management for some 1200 bridges comprising 500 rail underbridges; 400 road overbridge, and 200 pedestrian bridges. This paper presents two case studies of recent bridge replacements in metropolitan Sydney, carried out under very limited track occupation periods. It highlights the challenges faced by both the designers and constructors and demonstrates how innovative and practical solutions have been achieved.
