Abstract: The paper discusses the need for a long-span bridge over the Colorado River. The work of the Project Management Team, formed in 1989 by the Bureau of Reclamation, the states of Nevada and Arizona, the Federal Highway Administration and the National Park Service, is described. The team has identified options, performed engineering studies, developed funding agreements, and managed the design and future construction of the bridge. The target date for the beginning the bridge and approach roadway construction has been set for 1993, with estimated completion date in the summer of 1996.
